Last year, SSS organized Orphan's Day from A-Z without any help from any other organization...
And it was AMAZING...

We did a bunch of things:

Saturday's Celebration on Child Happiness

Celebrating SCOCH’s birthday, Hagar Fakhry, the SSS LOCH, takes over what Mo’taz and Hakim have started last year by celebrating Child’s Day in the SCOCH way by organising a party for youngsters less than 14 years.
If you’re an SSS member, or even not a member, don’t miss the chance, and of course you’re welcome to invite whoever interested.
All you have to do is to bring your younger brothers, sisters, cousins, nephews, or even neighbours’ daughter to the SSS lounge on Saturday 13th Mar. 09, and we guarantee that they’ll have loads of fun, gain new skills, make friendships, colour, sing, eat, and release their energy to the maximum.
If you’re able to bring any hot dishes with you, that will be more than welcome, especially that we need to feed all these young generation and their relatives.
Don’t miss the fun! All you have to do is to bring your youngster in one hand, and a food dish in the other hand, as Hakim says.

Thursday 26th of Feb. 09 has saw the most fruitful and successful General Assembly from a long time, according to senior SSS members.
The semi-annual GA produced the following outcomes, according to the SSS Sec. Gen. Lou’ay Al-Tagy GA official minutes;
1) Adoption of team of officials reports.
2) Adoption of the projects' reports.
3) Adoption of the financial report.
4) Election of Aya Ahmed as SSS LOME, filling the SCOME’s vacant post.
5) Election of Mahmoud El-Hakim as SSS Treasurer, following Youssouf Helmy and Mohamed Bazan co-treasuring the SSS for the whole first term.
The current Team of Officials following the Thursday’s elections results in;

In addition to a lot of fun during the long day, peaked at the voting process for the Movie Competition that was held at the end of the day between self-producing four short movies, created by, starring, and directed by SSS members.
Sondos Sa’a Setta "سندس الساعة ستة" has aced the competition with 13 votes out of 19, the movie which is co-directed by and starring Ahmed Zidan and Youssouf Helmy, in addition to starring Hedy Ayman, and edited by Mustafa Halaby.
Worthy to mention, that the winner movie will be uploaded soon to this blog.

Free Organizational Behavior Courses in the AUC Way

Mahmoud Al Hakim, a full member and an ex-LOCH of the SSS during the last academic year, presented an unmissable chance to the members today, that he’ll conduct free sessions on Organizational Behavior Course, and whoever interested, should contact him as soon as possible.

Hakim says, “it will be given in 18 hours (6 sessions) from an AUCian professionally prepared material.”
Regarding the eligibility to attend the free sessions, the 22 year youngster continues, “anyone interested please send me on my personal email your name and your every free time a week to choose from a suitable timing for all of us.”

Human Rights Day in SSS Style

Last 10th of Dec. 08, the world celebrated 60 years of the issuing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
The SSS LOCH Hagar Fakhry, who’s responsible for Humanitarian projects at SSS Cairo joined the international celebration by recruiting me, Ahmed Zidan, and Ahmed Az-Zayat to lecture about the declaration which took place at the SSS office on 27th of Dec. 08.
The session took us 2 hours to entertain more than 20 members with a combination of philosophical, historical, and cultural backgrounds of both Individual Rights and Human Rights.
I’ve started the session with a brief introduction to Individual Rights, and then a historical introduction to UDHR, then Zayat clutched the gear to explore deeply within the Declaration articles and controversial aspects, afterwards, and to evaluate the members’ understanding to the session, Zayat finished the day in style, when he initiated the Ship Game, and then Sarah, another member who downloaded some materials for the session, collected an evaluation questionnaire about the UDHR.
The members knew it all; the session were fully saturated.

Hepatitis National Campaign

It was done under the supervision of the Ministry of Health, USAID, CHL. It targeted university students either medical or non medical and aimed at raising the awareness of viral hepatitis (B &C).That was done through direct awareness in Cairo University and offering low prices vaccination for high risk groups as medical and nursing schools.
We distributed about 6000 flyers and 100 posters. In addition 2700 students took the 1st dose of HBV & 2000 took the 2nd one; two seminars were organized ,one in our faculty & the speaker was Prof. Dr Maysa Rizk &the other was in faculty of political sciences & economy and was given by Prof. Dr. Ayman Aamer. A sport event was also organized in form of a football match.

World Diabetes Day in Style

WDD is celebrated worldwide by over 200 member associations of the International Diabetes Federation in more than 160 countries.
This year the SSS proudly shared in celebrating the World Diabetes Day. The day was organized in one of the most important and prestigious clubs in Cairo, Al Ahly Club in Al-Gazirah.
Direct awareness to the Club members about the disease, its complications and prevention was carried out by our members. In addition to that, measuring the blood glucose levels and blood pressure was done free of charge. Came next, a marathon was organized in the club's football track to emphasis on the importance of physical activity and physical exercises as a prevention to the different complications of the disease. The marathon was joined by many of the club members particularly children, which emphasised on the campaign's theme 'No child should die of diabetes' At the end of the day, Saleh Selim monument was lighted by the blue light, as one of the 930 iconic monuments worldwide that were chosen to light and mark the World Diabetes Day.

Nosocomial Infection Campaign

It aims at raising the awareness about hospital infection among nursing students mainly by giving them sessions about infection control, then the main part of the project which is based on conducting two research competitions about the same topic between nursing students &medical students .these competition are national between 11 medical &nursing school. &it will end in a conference to honour the winners.
We are currently receiving the researches in order to submit it to the national competition.

Our Annual Pilgrimage to Cancer Children Hospital

Following SCOCH's annual trait of visiting the 57357 Cancer Children Hospital. Hagar's SCOCH cruised to the hospital last Wednesday 28th of Dec. 08, with Mohamed Samy, and for the second successive year, the project co-ordinator, where the members given medical tours in laboratories, pharmacies and different departments including the Radiology department. Specialists gave lectures about cancer, statistics in Egypt and the state of children with cancer.
The members visited patients, including out and in patients.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

On Dec. 13th 08, the world celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, SSS members took part in organizing a day for children with mental and physical disabilities. The day included a puppet show, a DJ, a magician, clowns and activities and games like musical chairs and sac races. Also, free food, pullovers and blankets were distributed among the children.

World AIDS Day Celebrations

It’s concerned with raising the awareness on modes of transmission and correcting misconceptions, how to support PLHIV (people who is living with HIV) and fighting stigma & discrimination. This celebration is held on both national & local levels.

Nationally;
a) Sharing in the national conference held by IFMSA-Egypt under the patronage of ministry of higher education & UNAIDS on enhancing medical education related to HIV in Alexandria December 18th.
b) Sharing in sailing the Nile campaign (national campaign targeting mdgs): tunnel event & closing ceremony November-Decemeber 08.
c) UNICEF certified peer education training on raising awareness on HIV/AIDS.

Locally;
a) Awareness campaigns targeting medical students , non medical students in Cairo University, public in hyper1 , Carrefour, Ahly club & Mubarak public libraryb) Seminars targeting non medical students & public in Cairo university & Mubarak public library.
b) Workshops in Mubarak public library.

SSS Medical Fourth Issue

November 2008 was the date of the SSS big editorial event which is the release of the
4th issue of the SSS scientific magazine ‘’SSS medical’’.
It was about liver diseases & hepatitis viruses especially viruses B&C. We chose November to release it as SSS was participating in organising of the Egyptian Liver diseases forum.

First Aid

How could a doctor not know the basics of First Aid is simply beyond me! If you want to be a good doctor and master the skills of first aid, join this project now!
The team members will first take training about first aid, mastering its skills. Then, the team members will be explaining the basics to school children. Yes, in this day and age even children require basic knowledge of first aid!

Don't know what to do when you see a person swimming on the verge of drowning?

World AIDS Celebration!!

Successfully over, the WAC was yet another milestone in the SSS history.. Thanks to Louay and Juju, and of course all the team members who worked so hard on perfecting this day, it was indeed a blast... Noknok introduced the concept of selling known brand food products on our very own Kasr Al Ainy, which was not only a milestone for the SSS, but also for our faculty..

All I could say now is: Great Job! You guys did it..

This is what we were all expecting from our dear SSSians. You all proved that you don't only have the ability to organize perfect conferences, but also the spirit of a true SSSian!

A little about the conference:

نظمت الجمعية العلمية الطلابية بقصر العينى أمس المؤتمر القومى الأول للاحتفال باليوم العالمى للايدز تحت رعاية صندوق الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة الايدز والاتحاد الفدرالى الدولى لطلبة الطب بمصر ومعامل المدينة . حضر المؤتمر لفيف من أساتذة الطب بمصر وطلبة من كل كليات الطب بمصر و ممثلو صندوق الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة الايدز ووزارة الصحة. يهدف المؤتمر إلى نشر الوعى بين طلبة الطب في كل محافظات مصر عن خطورة هذا المرض وكيفية الوقاية منه ومواجهته وأساليب معاملة مريض الإيدز الذى يحتاج رعاية وعناية أكثر من أى مريض آخر. وقد تمت مناقشة أحدث طرق العلاج لهذا المرض و طرق نشر الوعى بين طلبة الجامعات المصرية. وتعد هذه هى المرة الأولى التى يتم فيها تنظيم حدث مثل هذا على مستوى قومى، وقد حاز تنظيم الجمعية الطلابية بقصر العينى على إعجاب جميع الحاضرين. المؤتمر أقيم تحت شعار "طلبة الطب ينشرون الوعى" حيث أن الخوف الدائم من التعامل مع مريض الإيدز هو الذى يدفع المريض للانعزال والابتعاد عن المجتمع الذى يتسبب فى تدهور حالته وهذا لم يكن أبداً الهدف

Daily meetings are now in progress to finalize the decorations. The members are required to wear black suits (or any dark color, but black is preferable) and a red tie! SCOCH activities are so much related to the name of the committee itself. As we believe that Child Health means Child Happiness, this is our main concern; promoting health awareness about major health proplems in our society, mainly through Medical awareness campaigns tagreting medical & para- medical students (future physicians) & university students (future parents) and through regular visits & cooperation with main health institutes, hospitals, organizations, orphanages & foundations mainly concerned with children and child health.

The ongoing campaign for this term (2007-2008) is about "Child Psychiatry" discussing the most common psychiatric disorders in children in Egypt; ADHD, Behavioral disorders (management of aggressive behavior) , Autism, OCD & Child Abuse (physical-psychological-sexual).The methodology of increasing awareness about these problems is mainly through seminars, workshops, training sessions, Booth & distributing posters, flyers, fact sheets and brochures in order to be able to reach the widest possible scale of the target group.

When it comes to the visits; SCOCH team is formulating a way to reach a new approach concerning charity work, where our aim is not going to be only an attempt to decrease childrens' suffering, share both good & bad moments with them and try to put a smile on their faces, but also to achieve our scientific goals during the visits, a plan of regular visits to 57357 hospital was the start.
