Saturday's Celebration on Child Happiness

Celebrating SCOCH’s birthday, Hagar Fakhry, the SSS LOCH, takes over what Mo’taz and Hakim have started last year by celebrating Child’s Day in the SCOCH way by organising a party for youngsters less than 14 years.
If you’re an SSS member, or even not a member, don’t miss the chance, and of course you’re welcome to invite whoever interested.
All you have to do is to bring your younger brothers, sisters, cousins, nephews, or even neighbours’ daughter to the SSS lounge on Saturday 13th Mar. 09, and we guarantee that they’ll have loads of fun, gain new skills, make friendships, colour, sing, eat, and release their energy to the maximum.
If you’re able to bring any hot dishes with you, that will be more than welcome, especially that we need to feed all these young generation and their relatives.
Don’t miss the fun! All you have to do is to bring your youngster in one hand, and a food dish in the other hand, as Hakim says.

How to Use This Blog?!

What is this blog? Is it yet another thing to read plus the zillion emails I receive per day? I'll just never open it again and rely on asking my friends about the news and activities of the SSS, this will keep me going!

Does this sound anything like you? If so, this blog is indeed for you. What is this and why has it been created?
As you know, in the SSS we have diverse activities and it is very hard to follow up merely on the "word of mouth" approach. That is why we've created the calendar to keep you in track of all the meetings or events in the SSS and to make the whole journey much easier for you.

This blog is a facilitator for the calendar; this means that if you find an activity in the calendar (scroll down for the calendar) that you think you want to be a part of, look for it in the blog. It will be labelled by the name of the committee and will have the title of the project itself. For an instance; the decorations team details will be found in the post "WAC Updates" which is also labelled "SCORA". Once you find it in the blog, you will find more details about this event, the contacts you need for it and how to join in. Didn't find it? Well, then this means that details are currently unavailable and a little info about it will be found in the post of the committee itself e.g. Anti-TB awareness will be found in the post "SCOPH Activities" until it starts!

What else could this blog offer me? Well, as a devoted member, you need to know the SSS most used abbreviations, missions, goals, bylaws, constitution, etc. All you have to do is scrolling down and there you are, links to download the important documents of the SSS and to visit important SSS related websites!

Ok, "sigh of relief," now I'm totally interested, how do I get started? On the right, you will find the titles of all the posts of the month. Check out the "SSS Groups" from the archives, which is posted on Dec. 07, and request to join the groups you're interested in (note to take: you cannot request to join the members' group unless you are an associate or a full member). Check out the blog periodically and now you're on the track.

No, I want more information! If so, then subscribe to the SSS New Members or SSS Members Group (according to your membership status) and check all the emails sent for more information about all the activities and more.

SSS Mission & Goals

1-"SOCIETY" by definition:
A) Friendly association with others.
B) Human beings viewed as a system within which the individual lives.
C) A group of people with common interests or purpose.
D) A part of a community thought of as different in some way.

2-"SCIENTIFIC SOCIETY" by definition:
The Professional, Scientific, and Technical association that comprises establishments that specialize in performing professional, scientific, and technical activities for others. These activities require a high degree of expertise and training. The establishments in this association specialize according to expertise and provide these services to its members in a variety of industries ,fields..... ...etc.

3-SSS MISSION:
Our mission is to offer future physicians a comprehensive introduction to global health issues. Through our programming and opportunities, we develop culturally sensitive students of medicine, intent on influencing and improving their community and be interactive with it.

4-Reasons & Considerations :
The mission must be including medical students and the whole community as two complementary items, thus IFMSA mission was the most fulfilling for this with some modifications to suit the mission of SSS.

5-SSS GOALS:
The name "Students Scientific Society" is a very brief summary to it's goals, as it was constructed for students of a scientific field which is medicine through which they have their own unique society thus supplying them with the suitable atmosphere that qualify them to be interactive medical students in their faculty and professional ,skillful doctors in their society. And actually those three goals can't be separated or isolated from each other because they all represent the body of SSS goals.

6-GOAL 1: SCIENTIFIC ASPECT:
It's the first goal in SSS, through which we fulfill a very important aspect which is the scientific side of the students' scientific society. One of the mains targets of SSS is to enhance the scientific thinking of medical students ,which is a must to help them be productive in their medical career and be capable of achieving progress in the everlasting renewable medical knowledge.

a1: Nature of the "SCIENTIFIC ASPECT":
Scientific by definition : related to science… which is of course a very general meaning, that' s why defining the nature of this science\scientific aspect is a must. And thus scientific here = medical related issues or science within the medical field and any other knowledge that widens the medical vision of the medical student.

a2: Dimensions of this "SCIENTIFIC ASPECT":
After defining the nature of this science, comes defining the tracks of this scientific aspect that illustrates the nature of the scientific activities SSS carries and to whom it's directed that's considered a method of assessment of SSS scientific activities\projects, so there are five possible tracks of SSS scientific activities\projects :
1-SSS---SSS: e.g.. trainings, courses.. ..etc.
2-SSS---Faculty (Kasralainy): e.g.. MEDC projects, conferences, the magazine...etc
3-SSS---University (Cairo university): e.g.. any project on university level.
4-SSS---EMSA---IFMSA: e.g.. SCORA, SCOME, SCOPH, SCORE & SCOPE activities.
5-SSS---Community (Egypt): e.g.. qawafel tebeya.

a3:Reasons & Considerations:
In order to cover a wide scale of scientific activities that opens new channels for scientific creativity skills of members who are medical students in the first place.

B-GOAL 2: MEDICAL STUDENTS = MEMBERS:
It's the second goal of SSS, which is also apart of the first and the third as they all represent a closed circle of interactive items. The members are the backbone of SSS, as human resources represent the axis of any community, that's why SSS goals always starts and ends at its members, so members must be always either starting or ending point or both according the nature of the activity or the project.

b1: Skills:
This's the first sub goal concerning members, SSS aims preparing students to become active and contributive physicians of a global society. So, one of it's main goals in this is to supply the student with all the skills and improving his own skills as well in order to be qualified to fulfill his duties as medical student and young doctor in his society.

b2: Knowledge:
SSS aims at enhancing the medical knowledge of students through many non traditional ways beside their studies as awareness projects, medical publications...etc.

b3: Social aspect:
Being a scientific association doesn't delete the social aspect of our activities, as a vital need in the life of any association generally and a crucial need in the life of medical students specifically. That accordingly increases their productivity and makes them more liable for improvement and progress.

b4: Reasons & Considerations:
To focus on members as a goal is a must as they're the fruitful outcome of SSS, and this doesn't screen SSS role that cover all medical students in Kasralainy. In addition, that the aim is not to make a little change in a large number of medical students. But, to make a great difference even if this was in a small group of medical students. But still we can increase the quantity curve of members as long as the fruitful outcome of skillful members is increasing as well.

C-GOAL3: SOCIETY:
The third goal which as well can't be separated from the previous goals is the society, as SSS is still apart of the community and thus it can't be isolated from the whole society. And as mentioned previously that SSS aims at preparing students to become active and contributing physicians of a global society, thus in order to reach this, they must be always in contact with the outer society (other students, patients, public...etc) and never be detached from it.

c1: Communication:
One of the sub goals that should be fulfilled in this aspect is to improve the students communication skills that accordingly enhances their abilities as young doctors in the society,which of course including medical ethics that's essentially required for a medical students to facilitate & improve students' communication with patients, public. ..etc.

c2: Fundraising:
This is another advantage can be fulfilled through SSS activities\projects in the society, however fundraising can't be a target in it self, because SSS is anon profit association.

7-Conclusion: Adoption of SSS mission and goals:
These are SSS mission and goals, that should be always the members' reference through which SSS will be always on the right track and thus keep SSS progress curve increasing forever.
